5 Useful Tips - How to Avoid Unnecessary Computer Repairs (Barbados)

Do you know that you can avoid unnecessary computer repairs? Well, for a few years at least and then the repairs may become necessary.

You will probably agree that the computers of today perform better but they just don't seem to last much longer, do they? They crash unexpectedly, refuse to startup, and if you finally get it started, it shuts right down again. Expletives, anger and frustration usually follow, I know.

It kinda makes you feel as if these computers are intentionally built not to last.

To be fair though, these problems can occur with any computer (ancient or modern), but we do (and should) expect much more from the newer computers, shouldn't we? Maybe it's the price we pay for progress.

There is Hope

Be that as it may, you can still squeeze a little extra life out of you laptop, desktop or what have you with these 5 useful tips I'll share with you on avoiding unnecessary computer repair.

If you are at all interested in saving some money on computer repairs then pay close attention. All five may seem like nobrainers but a little reminder can save you some serious cash.

  1. Avoid Using Liquids While Using Your Computer

It may be convenient to sip a cup of coffee while using your laptop, but one mistake can prove costly. One spill can mean spending hundreds in laptop repair costs or hundreds on a new computer.

Approximately 55%-60% of laptops we repair are from liquid spills. Some of the laptop repair costs are too expensive to fix and have to be replaced.

While you may consider yourself to be an extremely careful person, just remember that no one is perfect.

2. Keep Your Essential Computer Security Software Updated

This should be prefaced by saying make sure you have security software installed in the first place. By security software we are mainly referring to antivirus, anti-malware and anstispyware software.

These security essentials help keep your computer somewhat safe from attacks that could render your computer unusable and sometimes useless.

At times severely compromised computers can take hours or days to have the problem resolved so please take heed.

3. Use Strong Passwords

Using passwords like "password" your name or your date of birth may make it easy for you to remember your password. However, in doing so you are also making it easy for someone to compromise your computer.

It is wise to use a mixture of capital letters, common letters, numbers etc. to make it that much harder for someone to guess your password.

So if you are still using "password" as your password go ahead and change it now and keep it in a safe place. If you have numerous passwords to remember you can use a password manager such as Lastpass (it's free).

4. Clean your Computer Regularly

If you want to add some longevity to your computer and keep the computer repair guy at bay for now then you need to keep your computer clean of dust. Dust is one of the computer's biggest enemies.

Dust builds up on and in computers very quickly depending on your environment and can cause a myriad of problems.

If you take a look at your computer now and it seems like it hasn't been clean in ages then you need to clean it as soon as possible.

Keeping your computer clean allows it to run smoothly and to work less hard.
